Kevan Galyean
Empower Camps of Texas Executive Board Member
At sixteen years old, Kevan began working with and caring for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through volunteer service at the Lubbock State Supported Living Center, formerly Lubbock State School. In the years that followed he also worked as direct support staff in a group home for individuals with IDD and was involved in Special Olympics. Kevan obtained his Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Lubbock Christian University in 2004, and received a Master's of Science in Psychology from Abilene Christian University in 2006. He then entered the PhD program in Criminal Justice at the University of Cincinnati where he secured cadidacy and successfully defended his dissertation proposal. At that time, a family medical situation brought Kevan back to Lubbock and he suspended his doctoral studies to care for a family member full-time. Kevan joined the staff at Empower Dayhab in July, 2021 as a welcomed return to serving individuals with IDD. He is passionate regarding this work and pursues new ways to advocate for the IDD population continuously. When not at work, Kevan enjoys his life with his beautiful wife and five dogs!
